1990年大学毕业后一直从事临床工作，1997年和2004年先后获病理学硕士和博士学位，2008年2月至2010年2月在美国Emory 大学从事博士后研究。经过30年的临床实践，积累了丰富的临床病理诊断经验，临床病理诊断水平国内一流，尤其在是头颈部、消化和呼吸道肿瘤、炎症性肠病的病理诊断方面。

主要从事肿瘤分子病理学的研究。研究方向是鼻咽癌、肺癌和甲状腺癌等常见恶性肿瘤病因发病学的分子机制研究、早期诊断、转移和预后分子标志物的筛选和肿瘤的靶向治疗。建立了具有自主知识产权的高通量组织芯片技术筛选肿瘤分子标志物的实验平台，申请国家发明专利五项，其中二项已获国家发明专利证书。主持国家自然科学基金六项和二项省自然科学基金（含重点项目），并承担国家863、 973项目及省科技重点项目等多个科研课题。获湖南省医药科技进步奖二等奖一项(排名第一)。已培养毕业硕士研究生12名、博士生4名（2名为中南大学优秀博士论文）。现为国家自然科学基金和省自然科学基金项目评议专家，国务院学位论文评阅专家。中国耳鼻咽喉颅底外科杂志常务编委，并担任Human Pathology, Journal of Pathology, Pathology, Cancer Science, Diagnostic Pathology, Cancer Letter, Virchows Archiv等10多个国际杂志审稿人。

国内外学术杂志发表科研论文130多篇，其中SCI论文100多篇，第一作者或通讯作者SCI论文60多篇，包括发表在国际一流杂志如Theranostics, Human Pathology, Histopathology, J Exp Clin Cancer Res, Neoplasia, J Clin Pathol等。参编专著4部。
