病案科是医院管理不可缺少的重要部门。作为医院技术科室之一，主要负责全院病历资料的收集、整理、分类、编码、登记、归档、存储、供应、统计和信息服务，协助医院相关管理部门做好病案质控工作，为临床医疗、教学、科研、预防保健和医院管理服务，同时为医疗保险、工伤鉴定、公、检、法等提供必要的信息服务。科室从1958年创立至今，已从手工管理转向网络化电子病案管理。

自1958年建院至今，经历3次改扩建，现建筑面积950m2，病案数总量350万卷册，其中门诊病历170万册，住院病历约180万册（包括11万册的缩微胶片）。病案采用两号分开制管理，即门诊病案、住院病案分别编号和放置、按流水号上架排列。日增新病历约600份。医院开放固定床位2332张，每年收治病人12万余人。

科室分为三个小组：门诊病案组、住院病案组和编目统计组。现有职工58人（正式21人，合同制、临时37人），其中研究生7人、本科学历13人。科室现有缩微胶片阅读机1台、计算机90台、复印机11台、打印机39台、高拍仪19台。

The medical record department is the indispensable important department of hospital administration. As one of the technical departments of hospital, it is primarily in charge of medical record collection, arrangement, classification, code, register, file, store, supply, statistics and information service. It assists the relevant administrative departments of the hospital to do the medical record quality well and offers service for clinical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and health care and hospital administration. Also it offers essential information service for medical insurance, industrial injury appraisement, public security, prosecution and justice etc.The department was established in 1958 and had already turned from the handwork management to the electronic medical record management.

Upon Peking University Third Hospital’s establishment in 1958, the medical record department has went through 3 times reconstruction and enlargement. It has 950 square meters of floor space now. The total number of medical record volume is 3,500,000, and the out-hospital medical record volume is 1,700,000, while in-hospital medical record volume about 18,00,000 (including 110,000 the microfilm). The medical record is controlled separately by dual number which means out-hospital and in-hospital medical record numbered independently and shelved according to serial number. The new case every day is about 600 . Hospital has 2332 beds and offers service for more than 120,000 people every year.

The department is divided into three groups: out-hospital medical record group, in-hospital medical record group and disease coding and statistics group. There are 58 staffs (21 formal workers and 37 contract workers and casual labourors ) now. And the number of postgraduate is 7, undergraduate is 13.The department has 90 computers, 11 duplicator stations, 39 printers and 19 High photography equipment.
